LASH 101

Nothing opens up your eyes and looks sexier and more playful than perfectly applied false lashes. But not all girls get the “less is more” approach and too many end up looking like they’re sporting a pair of crow feathers from their eyelids.

So what is the best way to apply false lashes? And how are we to know which style/length best suit our eye shape? Lyndall Cortis, Brand Manager at Ardell Lashes helped us break down this growing beauty trend.

What’s the best way to determine which style of lash is best for your eye shape?
Small Eyes: Your eyes will be proportionally smaller than the rest of your facial features so choose lashes to make your eyes look wider. Opt for false eyelashes that look as natural as possible and aren’t too thick or heavy as those will only make your eyes look smaller.

Larger Eyes: Your eyes will be the pronounced and dominating feature on your face. Choose false eyelashes styles that are fuller and thicker.

Round Eyes: Your eyes will be larger and more open, so opt for a false lash style that’s is a demi style, but still quite full.

Almond Shape Eyes: Most false eyelash styles will look great with your eye shape. Why not give yourself a dramatic look with some full, thick lashes?

What are your best tips and tricks for natural looking lashes?
We have plenty of Natural Lash style options available plus the Ardell Accent Lashes. These are shorter in length than strip lashes (about half the size) and can be applied to the outer edges of your eyes for a more natural look.

What’s the best way to avoid your false lashes coming unstuck?
After you apply adhesive to the lash, wait 30 seconds for it to become tacky. Application will be easier and adhesive will not be slippery.

Should you always apply a coat of mascara over your false lashes?
Mascara is optional. If you have straight lashes, you can curl your lashes and apply a little mascara before applying strip lashes.

Do you need to cut your lashes to size/shape? If so what is the correct way to do so?
Before applying strip lashes, place the lash on top of your natural lashes, starting at the inner corner of where your natural eyelashes start. If the lash extends beyond your lash line, trim the side of the lash that would sit in the inner corner of the eye near the tear duct. This helps to keep the design and balance of the lash.

Are there lashes which are re-usable?
The Ardell Strip Lashes are reusable. To reuse, remove the adhesive from the lash band using a non-oily eye-makeup remover. You may need to also use tweezers to remove the adhesive. Once removed place lashes back on tray for re-use.

What is the safest way to remove false lashes to avoid taking any real lashes with them?
Starting at the outer corner of the eye, gently peel off the strip lash. For Individual Lashes, the DuraLashes are easily removed by using the specially formulated LashFree Remover. This is available in DuraLash Starter Kits. Place a tissue over the lower lid and partially close your eye. Dip an eyeliner brush into LashFree Remover, then stroke along the lash line until adhesive softens. Remove lashes without pulling. Repeat if necessary.
