Emily Ratajkowski Responds To Critics Who Judged Her Surprise Marriage

Victoria Beckham leather-and-suede plum jacket, Re/Done jeans, and a Prada cross-body bag, with an unapologetic air – that’s how Marie Claire described the effortlessly chic, Emily Ratajkowski when they met with her for an exclusive interview just one week after her ultra low-key wedding.

Interestingly enough, she wasn’t planning to announce that she had just wed Sebastian Bear-McClard. They married a month after the end of her relationship with Jeff Magid and it was actually her publicist that told her to get in front of the story.

She told Marie Claire, “I actually thought there was a chance that no one would find out. I am still getting used to fame. I forget, you know.”

Just like anything celebrities post on social media, cue the trolls. “People came after my marriage, like, ‘Wow. I give it three weeks.’ I’m like, ‘What?’ No one can take women seriously on any choices that they make, especially if they’re unique to them and they don’t play into the way we think women should get married. It’s a constant writing-off.”

Emily also spoke about the excitement of her husband and wife debut at the Oscar’s Party, as the interview was recorded prior to the event. She described the Zac Posen burgundy gown as having, “a lace corset in it. And we made a matching clutch. It’s insane.”

“I’ve never gotten to take my man. I can’t say husband. That’s so crazy still. It’s been a week.”

She married the actor and producer  on February 23 at City Hall in New York. She surprised us, and stunned, in a mustard-coloured Zara suit and black wide-brimmed hat.

“When you don’t have a real wedding, it’s for you,” Emily told Marie Claire. “I wore what I wanted to wear. It really felt like the outfit that was most me, and that made me feel good.”
