Don’t be fooled into thinking that a winter wedding will limit your choice of gorgeous blooms! The cooler months may have a reputation for producing less in-season flowers than the spring, summer and autumn, but the lack of variety is made-up by the fact you can choose from some of the most elegant and delicate florals available.
Ria Gradon from Ria Florals has long been considered one of the most talented florists in Australia, so when we got a chance to chat with her about winter blooms, we couldn’t wait to find out her ‘picks of the bunch’!
1. Deciduous Magnolia
These unique blooms are sculptural and delicate at the same time – a rare balance.
2. Cymbidium orchids
Not only are these beautiful, but they are extremely sturdy, making them perfect for on-trend floral installations.
3. Tulips
Tulips have a fabulous array of colours and interesting texture. If you’re after something a little bit different, consider double tulips, which look just like fluffy peonies when in full bloom.
4. Moss
Gorgeous texture and versatility brings a magical woodland, forest-feel to flower arrangements.
5. Anemone
The dark, almost black, centres of these flowers are a wonderful way to incorporate deeper shades into your wedding, especially if you’ve got a few other pops of black in the wedding party and styling.
6. Sweet-Pea
Feminine and delicate, these blooms have the most amazing scent.
7. Citrus Fruit
Using citrus fruits (especially when you leave them on the branch) in the styling gives an opulent, but rustic feel to the reception and creates an instant WOW factor
