6 biggest mistakes millennials make on their wedding day

As a bride, you’ll probably get concerned at one point or another that your wedding day won’t go to plan. Because we all (generally) only get one shot at our own ‘big day’, we spoke with some millennials on the biggest blunders they made, so you don’t make the same mistakes!

1. Being Too Trendy

“Look at these beautiful favours! They are so trendy” if this sounds like you, you might want to put the phone down. Sure, Pinterest and Instagram are a good way to find what you want for your wedding but we would never recommend choosing a wedding product or service ONLY based on ‘trendiness’. Focus on price, reviews, context – and most of all whether you truly love it.

2. Only Sending an E-Vite

Now it is time to plan the wedding and get all the invitations out, so you don’t have to get married to a non-existent crowd. The best way to make sure everyone gets the invitation, even your grandma is by printing one. This may seem cliché but it is the best idea, so no one misplaces or loses it within their hundreds of emails.

3. Skipping a Professional Photographer

Vogue released an article on 10 wedding ‘rules’ you should break for your wedding and supposedly having a photographer is one of them. Sure, it may be old-school to have someone photograph your wedding, but when Vogue said suggested having disposable camera for guests to use instead (“It made sense back in the olden days, pre–Facebook albums and Instagram hashtags, when the whole world didn’t have phones with cameras on them.”), we had to disagree. Nothing beats the quality of a photograph taken by a pro and you’ll regret it if you skimp on this wedding must-have.

4. All DIY

Wedding stress, nerves and excitement is all we experience till the day is completed. Why add more stress to be trendy and cost-savvy by doing all the wedding planning by yourself? If you really want a DIY-themed wedding, get all your girlfriends/bridesmaids together and make it a fun, wind down day.

5. Digi Overload

Although saving your wedding photos digitally is a must, a huge mistake is forgetting to print them! It’s so much more special to have a hard-copy album for your coffee table, or a blown-up print that you hang in your home. If you do save them on your computer, make sure you have a back-up (ie. A cloud account or a hard drive), so you don’t fall victim to any viruses that wipe out all your saved items!

6. Rash Decisions

You are a bride, you are going to stress and you’ll have to make some hard decisions, but always remember, you are allowed to take your time. Some decisions need to be thought out properly. If you are stuck, ask a friend or family member for advice, but don’t feel like you need to make a decision asap.
