Whether your proposal is a “surprise” or planned with you right by your partner’s side, you’ll be happy either way – after all, you’re marrying the man of your dreams. But it would be nice to know that you’re getting the diamond that you’ve been eyeing out.
So, whether you want to take the obvious in-your-face approach or slightly more subtle nudging, here are 5 ways to hint to your lover about the kind of engagement ring you really want.
Leave Your Laptop Open
This is the oldest trick in the book. Be sure to oh-so-casually leave your laptop open with the screen open to a jewellers page or Pinterest. It may seem pretty obvious, and kinda hilarious, but it works! Pinterest is fantastic for inspiration but it can be hard to track down the exact ring you’ve pinned. You’re better off hopping onto a jeweller’s website and clicking on the kind of ring you want. Your partner might even make a joke about it, but at least you’ve planted the seed…
Scroll Through Instagram Beside Them
You can do this at any time and it’s a little more subtle than leaving your laptop open (if you’re not into the super obvious approach). Maybe you’re about to go to bed or you’re just sitting together doing nothing, but scrolling through social media is the perfect way to catch their attention. Again, head to a jewellers page as they will likely have all their ranges on show, and point out the ones you like (even if they’re not paying attention). A few, “Oh, look how nice this shape is!” will go a long way.
Shop Together
Skip the vagueness and just go ring shopping together. Sure, it’s nice to be surprised, but it’s even nicer knowing that you’re getting the ring you’ve been pining for (and pinning). After you’ve stalked a bunch of websites and Instagram pages, head into the actual store and talk to the jeweller. They’re more than willing to help you find the right ring and you may even find an entirely new style you didn’t expect.
Send In A Friend
So you want to keep it as much as a surprise as possible. You’ll need to channel your inner Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and call a friend. You’re most likely already confiding in them about what you want, so they can be the guardian angel you need to push your partner in the right direction. Not only that, but your partner may already be reaching out to your friends and family about what to do, so it’s best to brief them early on.
Tell Them What You Like (And Don’t Like)
Just keep it simple and just tell them what you like and don’t like. Maybe you don’t want to get too involved or maybe he wants to keep an element of surprise there for you, so just make it clear what you feel would suit you and let him work on the rest with your preferred jeweller. That way you retain some kind of mystery without being totally in the dark.
