3 relationship health checks you need to do with your husband

Is your relationship healthy, or have you and your beau fallen into a relationship rut? Not only can an unhealthy relationship impact on your emotional well-being, but it can also play havoc on you physically too! To test whether you’re in a healthy relationship, here are a few health checks to run through.

1. Heart & Head

Your mental emotional well-being is just as important as your physical health, but before you focus on your hubby’s mental and emotional and emotional satisfaction, it is important that you make sure YOUR emotional well-being is stable. Too many women make the mistake of putting their partner’s well-being before their own all the time which can cause distress and unhappiness for the both of you. For example, you might think ‘I can’t rely on my partner’ which then causes you to physically turn away from him (sometimes unintentionally) – something which is unhealthy for the two of you!

Remedy: How can I stop this from happening?

In order to fix this, you can start with a behavioural change. You need to tell him how you’re feeling and then work towards resolving your personal trust issues. The more often you practice relying on him (and seeing a positive outcome), the easier it becomes.

2. Eyes, Ears, & Mouth

You’ve heard it time and time again, Fairies but it’s true; communication is key! Often finding the balance between ‘me’, ‘you’ and ‘us’ is difficult, but creating an effective communication network in which you can share your thoughts and feelings is essential. If you don’t feel completely comfortable voicing your opinion to your partner, or if you get worried about being judged by him, it’s time for some serious Marriage medication.

Remedy: How can I create good communication?

Start by opening your eyes, ears and mouth to your hubby – literally! When you talk to each other, maintain eye contact, listen carefully and respond regularly. Schedule at least one night a week as ‘date night’; put the phones away, turn off the TV and talk to each other over a meal.

3. Hands and Feet

Touch is such an important part of any relationship and it doesn’t have to be sexual! Human touch can relieve anxiety, ease pain, increase immune system and gives your body a jolt of oxytocin – a hormone which creates intimacy, trust and has been found to increase fidelity! If you’re not getting the physical touch from your partner that you need, it can lead to you becoming disconnected to one another.

Remedy: How do I increase touch within a relationship?

Remember, it doesn’t to be difficult! When you’re spending time with your boo, sit on his lap, put your head on his shoulder, or simply hold his hand! If you’re needing a bit of extra touch TLC, ask him to give you a back massage.
